In this role, you’ll be a key arboricultural specialist—providing expert advice, undertaking inspections and helping deliver high‑quality outcomes for our community. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and resolving customer enquiries related to tree safety, health, and management, with a strong focus on risk‑based prioritisation.
  • Providing expert arboricultural assessments and technical advice for development applications, including tree retention, clearing and compliance with City Plan, legislation and Australian Standards.
  • Conducting onsite tree inspections, development inspections, planned signage inspections and mobile assessments.
  • Preparing high‑quality technical reports, internal referral comments and providing guidance to internal teams.
  • Contributing to initiatives and policies that support the effective management of Council’s tree assets.
  • Assisting with low to moderate complexity environmental development assessments during periods of increased demand.
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of arboricultural best practice, techniques and industry standards.

Skills and experience:

  • Strong experience in assessing tree health, structure, safety and environmental value using contemporary arboricultural methods.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, including City Plan and state regulation.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical advice clearly and professionally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Positions will be casual to start with full time opportunities available for the right candidates. Average hours 40 per week at casual rates, with a change to full time if you are the right candidate.

        About the role

        As a Team Leader in our Parks and branch, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding a skilled team to deliver high-quality horticultural services across our community spaces. You’ll be responsible for leading daily operations, making informed decisions, and fostering a collaborative and productive team environment. This includes mentoring staff, ensuring compliance with Council policies, and promoting multi-skilling and professional development.

        Your technical expertise will be essential in performing and overseeing specialised horticultural tasks such as tree maintenance, pest management, and landscape care. You’ll also ensure safe and efficient use of equipment and uphold high standards of customer service by resolving issues and supporting your team in delivering positive outcomes for internal and external clients.

        This role requires a hands-on leader with strong communication skills, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in both team performance and service delivery.

        Skills & Qualifications 

        • Possession of a current “MR” Class Drivers Licence (Medium Rigid)
        • Possession of a current General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) ticket
        • Possession of Certificate 3 in Arboriculture or Certificate 3 in Horticulture with demonstrated arboriculture experience or an equivalent tertiary qualification
        • Possession of an Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate (AC/DC) certificate or equivalent, or the ability to acquire within the probation period self-funded.
        • Level 1 Operate and Maintain Chainsaw certification from a recognized training provider.
        • Possession of a Chainsaw Fall Trees Manually (Intermediate) accreditation.
        • Possession of a Maintain Chainsaw & Trim and cut felled Small Trees (Level I) accreditation
        • The incumbent will be required to undertake a functional capacity evaluation prior to commencement of employment.
        • This position has been identified as having a ‘Significant Risk’ of exposure to a disease preventable by vaccination. Therefore, it is a compulsory requirement of the position that the incumbent have the following vaccinations (which may vary in the future) in accordance with the terms of The Australian Immunisation Handbook and Council’s Worker Vaccination Management Directive. Vaccines for this position currently include: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus and Q fever.
        • Demonstrated experience in coordinating a wide range of Arboricultural activities relating to the maintenance and improvement
        • of parks, road landscapes and other recreational areas.
        • Demonstrated relevant experience in delivery of ground-based tree maintenance or removal activities.
        • Extensive experience and demonstrated ability to safely and competently operate plant and equipment associated with the position

        The incumbent may be required to be available for after-hours emergent issues as needed.

          Councils Arboriculture and Street Scapes section has two exciting opportunities for motivated and positive team players to join their team as an Arborist Gardeners / Arborists. Level dependent on skills and experience.

          You will be responsible for carrying out tree activities in the region including the removal and pruning of street and park trees, assessing of the health of trees and assisting with recommendations for removal or treatment of unhealthy and problem trees. You will take pride in your work and have a passion for the industry and seeing tasks through to completion.

          This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check – Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

           

          What we are looking for

          • Genuine interest or experience in arboriculture practices and techniques as well as an understanding of a range of cutting and pruning equipment.

          • Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
